BTS is back with their third mini-album <When My Love Blooms pt.1>. It is an album where you can meet BTS, who are growing little by little, rather than just young boys. Each track has a lyrical and pop feeling, so you can feel the big and small changes musically.
BTS has successfully completed the "School Trilogy" album, which encompasses dreams, happiness, and love, the biggest concerns of teenagers, and talks about "youth" through this album. 'Hwayangyeonhwa' means the most beautiful moment in life. BTS, who have just entered their youth, took this moment when beauty and anxiety coexist as their theme. <Hwayangyeonhwa pt.1>, which will be released on April 29, focuses on the precariousness of an uncertain future rather than the brilliance of youth. In addition, while rappers (Rap Monster, Suga, and J-Hope) have mainly participated in songwriting, this time, the vocal members (Jin, Jimin, V, and Jungkook) are also credited for producing and composing. It is an album where you can feel the side of BTS that is gradually growing musically.

BTS presents the most changed visuals since their debut. The intensity of staring at the camera was removed a little, and instead, the frame was filled with a more comfortable and languid atmosphere. The photos of <When My Love Blooms pt.1> use 'flowers', which most resemble youth, as the main material. Leaving the studio, I visited Gyeongju Bomun Complex, which is famous for its cherry blossoms, canola flower fields at Cheomseongdae, and the lonely beach. The cherry blossoms are in full bloom, but the eyes of BTS standing in the background look somehow uneasy. The album's theme, the anxiety of youth, was expressed through the breathtaking eyes that contrast with the bright scenery.

The title song of the third mini-album <When My Love Blooms pt.1>, 'I NEED U' is an electro-hip-hop song with an urban style. It is a song that combines an oriental main theme with lyricism and wild hip-hop. In terms of sound, it uses an electric source and comes with a different feeling from BTS' previous music. 'I NEED U' contains the anxious heart of trying to hold on to falling love towards the end.
Through 'Boy In Luv', 'Danger' and 'I NEED U', BTS weaved the process of love beginning and ending into one story. BTS, who made a somewhat childish and cute confession saying, “I’m going to be your brother,” in ‘Boy in Luv’, expressed their frustration about a relationship that didn’t go their way through their next album, ‘Danger’. And this time, it sings about trembling in anxiety because of a love that seems to end. It can be said that this song best expresses the album's theme, 'In the Mood for Love', with love that burns as if it will last forever but eventually cools down, and youth that blooms most beautifully but withers with time.

1. Intro: In the Mood for Love
An intro song announcing the start of <When My Love Blooms pt.1>. It is a collaboration song by BTS' SUGA and composer Slow Rabbit, and contains the confusion and worries experienced by boys who are still unfamiliar with the world. Suga used his hobby of basketball as a material for lyrics. Also, the sound of a basketball bouncing, the sound of running on the court, and the sound of breathing were composed with rhythm.

2. I NEED U
An electro-hip-hop song with an urban style. It contains the feelings of a man whose heart is burning because of his fading love. 'I NEED U' is BTS' second mini-album. This song is an extension of the love story that started with the title track of 'Boy In Luv'. It reflects the concept of the entire album best, and it can be said to be a story about youth itself, which is sweet but very painful. 'You're so beautiful you're so cold' is the lyrics that best show the emotion of 'I NEED U'.

3. Hold Me Tight
A contemporary R&B hip-hop song based on sophisticated piano melodies. Member V participated in making the melody. This song corresponds to the back story of 'Boy in Luv'. In 'Boy In Luv', if he confessed passionately to hold me tight, in 'Hold Me', he begged to hold me tight, expressing the image of a man who has become smaller in the face of love.

4. SKIT: Expectation!
This is a track where we honestly talked about our thoughts on the last album and expectations for this one.

5. Dope
An electronic hip-hop song featuring the saxophone. When I only heard the beat, I thought, 'Let's all play all night!' The lyrics of the same party tune come to mind, but BTS took a different approach. They expressed their own hustle with lyrics like "Half of the day is full of work." They say that practicing hard and making music while others are having fun is our swag and confidence.

6. Heungtan Boys
A retro punk hip-hop song that reinterprets 80's P-Funk with a modern sound. You can get a glimpse of SUGA's ability as a producer. This song was composed with the motif of the nickname 'Heungtan Boys', which was given to them because of their excitement. It is special that all the members participated in writing the lyrics and wrote lyrics that fit each character. You can enjoy listening to it by inheriting the atmosphere of the previously announced 'Attack of Bangtan' and 'Paldogangsan'.

7. Converse High
This song was pre-released at a solo concert held in Korea last March. It was based on Rap Monster's ideal type, 'a woman wearing Converse highs'. Rap Monster described this song as “a song that satisfies my selfish desires.” It was originally a song I worked on for Rap Monster's first mixtape released in March, but it was included in this album.

8. Moving
A song that lets you feel the nostalgia of the 90s hip-hop that is blowing in the New York hip-hop scene. BTS actually left the dorm they lived in before their debut and moved to a new place. With this as a motif, a song was created that contains the regret of leaving the familiar accommodation and the excitement of a new home. Through the lyrics that bring out memories of the old dorm one by one, you can get a glimpse of BTS' past days.

9. Outro: Love is Not Over
A track that catches your ears with only a minimal composition and calm vocals. Jungkook, the main vocalist of BTS, took on the challenge of producing for the first time, and also revealed his self-taught piano skills. [불안한 청춘을 입은 방탄소년단]
방탄소년단은 데뷔 이후 가장 달라진 비주얼을 선보인다. 카메라를 노려보던 강렬함을 조금 걷어내고, 대신 한층 편안하고 나른한 분위기로 프레임을 채웠다. <화양연화 pt.1>의 사진은 청춘과 가장 닮은 ‘꽃’을 주요 소재로 삼았다. 스튜디오를 벗어나 벚꽃으로 유명한 경주 보문 단지와 첨성대 유채꽃밭 그리고 쓸쓸한 감성이 느껴지는 바닷가를 찾았다. 벚꽃은 아름답게 만개했지만, 이를 배경으로 서있는 방탄소년단의 눈빛은 어딘지 모르게 불안해 보인다. 화사한 풍경과 대비되는 아슬아슬한 눈빛을 통해 앨범의 테마인 청춘의 불안함을 표현해냈다.


[타이틀곡 ‘I NEED U’ 소개]
세 번째 미니앨범 <화양연화 pt.1>의 타이틀곡인 ‘I NEED U’는 어반 스타일이 접목된 일렉트로 힙합곡이다. 서정성이 가미된 동양적인 메인 테마와 와일드한 힙합이 결합된 노래다. 사운드적으로 일렉트릭 소스를 사용해 방탄소년단의 지난 음악과는 또 다른 느낌으로 다가온다. ‘I NEED U’에는 끝을 향해 추락하는 사랑을 붙잡아 보려는 애타는 마음이 담겨있다.

[곡 소개]
1. Intro : 화양연화
<화양연화 pt.1>의 시작을 알리는 인트로 곡. 방탄소년단의 SUGA(슈가)와 작곡가 Slow Rabbit(슬로래빗)이 공동 작업한 노래로, 아직은 세상이 낯선 소년들이 겪는 혼란과 고민을 담았다. 슈가는 취미인 농구를 가사의 소재로 활용했다. 또한 농구공 튀는 소리와 코트를 달리는 소리, 숨소리 등을 리듬으로 구성하는 센스를 발휘했다.

2. I NEED U
어반 스타일이 접목된 일렉트로 힙합곡. 꺼져가는 사랑 때문에 속이 타들어 가는 남자의 심정을 담았다. ‘I NEED U’는 방탄소년단의 두 번째 미니앨범 의 타이틀곡인 ‘상남자’에서 시작된 사랑 이야기의 연장선 상에 있는 곡이다. 전체 앨범 콘셉트를 가장 잘 반영하고 있으며, 달콤하지만 너무 아픈 청춘 그 자체에 대한 이야기라 할 수 있다. ‘넌 아름다워 너무 차가워’는 ‘I NEED U’의 정서를 가장 잘 보여주는 가사다.

3. 잡아줘 (Hold Me Tight)
세련된 피아노 선율을 기반으로 한 컨템포러리 알앤비 힙합곡(Contemporary R&B HipHop). 멤버 V가 멜로디 메이킹에 참여했다. 이 곡은 ‘상남자’의 뒷이야기에 해당한다. ‘상남자’에서는 날 꽉 잡으라고 패기 넘치게 고백했다면, ‘잡아줘’에서는 날 꽉 잡아달라고 애원하며 사랑 앞에서 작아져 버린 남자의 모습을 표현했다.

4. SKIT : Expectation!
지난 앨범에 대한 생각과 이번 앨범에 대한 기대감에 대해 솔직하게 대화를 나눈 트랙이다.

5. 쩔어
색소폰을 전면에 내세운 일렉트로닉 힙합곡. 비트만 들었을 땐 ‘다 같이 밤새 놀자!’ 같은 파티튠의 가사가 떠오르지만 방탄소년단은 좀더 색다른 시각으로 접근했다. ‘하루의 절반은 작업에 쩔어’ 같은 가사로 그들만의 허슬을 표현한 것이다. 남들이 놀고 즐길 때 열심히 연습하고 음악을 만드는 게 우리의 스웩(Swag)이자 자신감이라 말한다.

6. 흥탄소년단
80년대 피펑크(P-Funk)를 현대적인 사운드로 재해석한 레트로 펑크 힙합곡(Retro Funk HipHop). 슈가(SUGA)가 가진 프로듀서로서의 역량을 엿볼 수 있다. 이 노래는 흥이 많아서 붙은 ‘흥탄소년단’이라는 애칭을 모티브로 작곡했다. 멤버 모두가 작사에 참여해 각자의 캐릭터에 맞는 노랫말을 썼다는 점이 특별하다. 앞서 발표한 ‘진격의 방탄’ ‘팔도강산’의 분위기를 이어 받아 신나게 들을 수 있다.

7. Converse High
지난 3월 한국에서 열린 단독콘서트에서 선공개한 곡. 랩몬스터(Rap Monster)의 이상형인 ‘컨버스하이를 신은 여자’를 소재로 했다. 랩몬스터는 이 곡을 가리켜 “나의 사리 사욕을 채운 노래”라고 표현했다. 원래는 3월에 공개한 랩몬스터의 첫 번째 믹스테잎을 위해 작업했던 곡인데, 이번 앨범에 수록됐다.

8. 이사
뉴욕 힙합씬에서 불고 있는 90년대 힙합의 향수를 느낄 수 있는 곡. 방탄소년단은 실제로 얼마 전 데뷔 전부터 살던 숙소를 떠나 새로운 곳으로 이사를 갔다. 이를 모티브로, 정든 숙소를 떠나는 아쉬움과 새로운 보금자리에 대한 설렘을 담은 곡을 만들었다. 예전 숙소에 대한 추억을 하나하나 끄집어낸 가사를 통해 방탄소년단의 지난 날을 엿볼 수 있다.

9. Outro : Love is Not Over
