Description
Kim Mok-in, who released his debut album [Musician's Own Song] in 2011, released music that encompasses folk, folk-rock, and pop. Daily (2017)] and a number of singles and project albums. The 3rd album [A Day in the Life of Mr. Collaboration] was nominated for the 2018 Korean Popular Music Award for Album of the Year and Best Folk Album. Fellow musicians have shown sympathy mixed with admiration for his music, and thanks to this, I used to hear the story of 'musicians' musician'. His songs, which are moderately communicative without exaggeration, have contained stories that penetrate life by handling seemingly trivial subjects from an extraordinary perspective.
Kim Mok-in's 4th full-length album [Saved Scenery], released after 5 years, expresses the meaningful scenes he witnessed while taking a walk in the city center during the time when the pandemic stopped. Compared to the previous songs that mainly expressed thoughts rather than emotions, the songs in this album describe the psychological landscape with many parts of the lyrics and music. The 'City Walk', which opens the album, contains images of people who were out in the evening and hot summer wandering along the Han River a long time ago. Then, 'To be different', which sings about the preciousness of diversity, and 'Digging', which overlaps the nihilism of the same generation and my passion as a collector, flow. 'Stage', a song that satirizes reality programs as a 'hardcore stage' where hot newcomers get off overnight, 'The Backside of the World', a song cheering for a fictional heroine, and 'Blown Night', which expresses a night where emotions are not organized. etc., and ends with 'Winter, Window', which expresses the sense of 'living here now'.
“In the past few years, everyone has been through the big thing called pandemic at the same time, and personally, I have felt the importance of the mental health of my acquaintances and myself many times. I have come to know a little how the landscape around me is my only hope. Also, I came to understand what Lee said, 'I try to see as many beautiful things as possible'. In the past, what I felt was the most bland has become the most important subject. So, while these pieces of music are meaningful to some like landscape paintings, they may feel like everyday scenery to others. However, I wrote these songs believing in the scenes that felt meaningful to me. The expression 'saved scenery' is an expression that was added after selecting and tying songs later. It also means 'preserved scenery' in a good sense, but also contains the meaning of 'old scenes' that are seldom erased from the mind. I felt that these two things were both the cause and the solution to a lot of what my generation is going through.”
A number of fellow musicians participated in [Saved Landscapes]. Musicians such as Lee Dong-jun (bass), Ko Jin-su (piano, keyboard), Hong-gap (guitar), Oh Hyeong-seok (drums), Cho Yoon-jeong (violin, viola), and Lee Bo-eun (oboe) took charge of the performances, while Kim Ji-won, Dopian, Yun Ju-mi, Lee Ho-seok, and Hwang Puha and others participated in the chorus. Also, label colleague singer-songwriter Da-jung Da-jeong participated as a vocalist in 'City Walk', Lee Ho-seok, who is with the Gypsy and Fish Orchestra, 'Day Moon', and rookie singer-songwriter Dopian participated as a vocalist in 'The Backside of the World'.

2011년에 데뷔앨범 [음악가 자신의 노래]를 발표한 김목인은 포크와 포크록, 팝을 아우르는 음악을 발표했고, 이후 2장의 정규 앨범 [한 다발의 시선(2013)], [콜라보 씨의 일일(2017)]과 다수의 싱글, 프로젝트 앨범을 발표했다. 3집 [콜라보 씨의 일일]은 2018년 한국대중음악상 올해의 음반, 최우수 포크음반 후보로 노미네이트 된 바 있다. 동료 음악가들은 그의 음악에 감탄 섞인 동감을 보여왔고, 덕분에 '음악가들의 음악가'라는 이야기를 듣곤 했다. 과장하지 않아도 적당히 입담이 좋은 그의 노래는 사소해 보이는 소재를 비범한 관점으로 다룸으로써 삶을 관통하는 이야기를 담아왔다.
5년 만에 발표하는 김목인의 정규 4집 [저장된 풍경]은 팬데믹으로 멈춰진 시기 도심을 산책하며 목격한 의미심장한 장면들을 곡으로 표현했다. 정서적인 것보다 생각을 주로 표현했던 기존 곡들에 비해 이번 앨범 수록곡들은 가사의 많은 부분과 음악으로 심리적 풍경을 묘사하고 있다. 앨범의 시작을 여는 '도심산책'은 오래 전 한강변을 배회하던 저녁과 더운 여름에 나와 있던 사람들의 모습이 담겨있다. 이어 다양성의 소중함에 대해 노래하는 '다르다는 건', 동세대의 허무주의와 나의 수집가적 열정을 포갠 '디깅'이 흐른다. 뜨거운 신인이 하룻밤에 하차하기도 하는 '하드코어한 무대'로서의 리얼리티 프로그램을 풍자한 '무대', 가상의 여주인공을 응원하는 곡 '세상의 뒷면', 감정이 정리되지 않는 밤을 표현한 '부푼 밤' 등의 곡을 지나 '지금 여기에 살고 있는' 감각을 표현한 '겨울, 창문'으로 마무리된다.
“몇 년 사이 모두가 팬데믹이라는 큰일을 동시에 겪었고, 개인적으로도 지인들과 나 자신의 정신 건강의 중요함도 여러 번 느꼈다. 나는 주변의 풍경이 얼마나 유일한 희망인지를 조금 알게 되었다. 또 '가능한 아름다운 걸 많이 보려 한다'는 이의 말도 이해하게 되었다. 예전에는 가장 싱겁다고 느꼈던 것이 가장 중요한 주제가 된 것이다. 그래서 이 음악들은 풍경화처럼 누군가에게는 의미심장하지만 누군가에게는 일상적 풍경처럼 느껴질지 모른다. 그러나 나는 내게 의미심장하게 느껴졌던 장면들을 믿고 이 곡들을 썼다. '저장된 풍경'이라는 표현은 나중에 곡을 골라서 묶은 뒤 붙인 표현이다. 좋은 의미로 '간직된 풍경'이라는 뜻이기도 하지만 마음속에서 좀처럼 지워지지 않는 '오래된 장면'의 뜻도 담고 있다. 나는 이 두 가지가 우리 세대가 겪는 많은 일들의 원인이자 방안이라고 느꼈다.”
[저장된 풍경]에는 다수의 동료 음악가들이 참여했다. 이동준(베이스), 고진수(피아노, 키보드), 홍갑(기타), 오형석(드럼), 조윤정(바이얼린, 비올라), 이보은(오보에) 등 음악가들이 연주를 맡았고, 김지원, 도피안, 윤주미, 이호석, 황푸하 등이 코러스로 참여했다. 그리고 레이블 동료인 싱어송라이터 다정이 '도심산책', 집시앤피쉬오케스트라를 함께 하고 있는 이호석이 '낮달', 신예 싱어송라이터 도피안이 '세상의 뒷면'에 보컬로 참여했다.
