Kim Teut-dol, who creates strange and beautiful music that is refined but raw, lively but heavy, is a musician who is curious about Daum.

Kim Teut-dol's first full-length album, 《Call from a Dream》

One day, Kim Teut-dol, who woke up from a dream after receiving a phone call, composed the story he shared in his dream into a song. A total of 11 songs, including [Call from a dream], contain conversations on a variety of topics, from greetings to friends who have broken up relationships, conversations with lovers, criticism of current society, and stories about death. For Kim Teutdol, 'dreams' often appear as a source of inspiration and a mythical element that connects the mystery of life and death.

The first song [Call from a dream] begins with someone entering ‘my’ dream and whispering to me. Someone is constantly sending me signals telling me to ‘stay awake’, but the first song ends without me ever answering the phone.
The next song, [The Nameless Man], is the story of ubermancy, or ‘superman’, from Nietzsche’s ‘Thus Spoke Zarathustra’. He is the one who calls in dreams in the first track and is always ‘the one who is awake’. [The Nameless Person], who came down from the mountain to enlighten people who have fallen into foolishness, says, ‘Don’t look for me, I’m already inside you,’ and asks people to become ‘the person who gives up their name.’ In the song, Kim Teut-dol says that the transcendent power of love, which is invisible but always there, is watching me 'always, always, even on rainy days' and that such a superhuman is right within me.

Kim Teutdol, who was greatly influenced by Freud's discourse on the unconscious and Eastern philosophy, especially has many songs about death. <Bipbo Bippo>, which has surpassed 1 million views on On Stage this year, can be said to be a cheerful testament. ‘I don’t know when I might die. The lyrics, which begin with 'If I get crushed to death by a high-altitude crane while walking down the street,' contain a critical look at day laborers and a society that ignores safety. In fact, Kim Teutdol created this song right after reading the sad news about a person losing his or her life after being crushed by a high-altitude crane. As can be seen in this song, Kim Tatdol seeks to see death as a social event beyond simply an individual's narrative. However, without being too heavy, it leads the listener to imagine the topic of 'death' in a light and cheerful way.

In addition, Kim Teut-dol says, 'I hope everyone who listens to this album drinks in love like invisible air and has good dreams.' Whether you meet a superhuman or think of death, what is important is not the content of the dream. Just as when you wake up, only vague memories remain, but your feelings are clear, I hope that even if it is not a profound realization after listening to the album, only the warm feeling that Kim Teutdol wants to convey remains.

김뜻돌 첫번째 정규 앨범 《꿈에서 걸려온 전화》

어느 날 꿈에서 전화를 받고 깬 김뜻돌은 자신이 꿈속에서 나눈 이야기를 노래로 만들었다. [꿈에서 걸려온 전화]를 비롯한 총 11곡에는 절교한 친구와의 안부부터 연인과의 대화, 현 사회에 대한 비판, 죽음에 대한 이야기까지 다양한 주제의 대화가 담겨있다. 김뜻돌에게 '꿈'이란 영감의 원천이자 삶과 죽음의 미스터리를 잇는 신화적 요소로 자주 등장한다.

첫번째 곡 [꿈에서 걸려온 전화]은 누군가가 '나'의 꿈에 들어와 속삭이면서 시작된다. 그 누군가는 나에게 끊임없이 '깨어있으라'는 신호를 보내나 끝내 전화는 받지 못한 채로 첫번째 곡이 마무리 된다.
이어 다음 곡 [이름이 없는 사람]은 니체의 <차라투스트라는 이렇게 말했다>에 나오는 위버맨시, 즉 '초인'의 이야기다. 그는 첫번째 트랙에서 꿈에서 전화를 거는 사람이자 항상 '깨어있는 자'다. 어리석음에 빠진 사람들을 깨우치기 위해 산에서 내려온 [이름이 없는 사람]은 '날 찾지마, 이미 네 안에 있는걸' 이라며 사람들에게 '이름을 버리는 사람' 이 되기를 청한다. 눈에 보이지는 않지만 언제나 그 자리에 존재하는 초월적인 사랑의 힘은 '비가 오는 날에도 항상 항상' 나를 지켜보고 있음을, 그런 초인이 바로 내 안에 있음을 김뜻돌은 노래 안에서 말한다.

프로이트의 무의식 담론과 동양 철학에 많은 영향을 받은 김뜻돌은 특히 죽음에 대한 곡들이 많다. 올해로 온스테이지에서 100만회를 훌쩍 넘은 <삐뽀삐뽀>는 경쾌한 유서라고 할 수 있다. '나는 내가 언제 죽을지도 몰라요. 길을 걷다 고공 크레인에 내가 깔려 죽으면' 이라고 시작되는 가사는 일용직 노동자들과 안전에 무색한 사회에 대한 비판적인 시선이 담겨있다. 실제로 김뜻돌은 이 곡을 고공크레인에 깔려 생명을 잃은 안타까운 기사를 접한 직후 만들었다. 이 곡에서 엿볼 수 있듯 김뜻돌은 죽음을 단순히 개개인의 서사를 넘어 사회적인 사건으로 보고자 한다. 그러나 너무 무겁지 않게, 듣는 이로 하여금 '죽음' 이라는 주제를 조금이라도 경쾌하게 상상하게끔 이끈다.

덧붙여 김뜻돌은 '이 앨범을 듣는 모두가 보이지 않는 공기처럼 사랑을 흠뻑 마시고 좋은 꿈을 꾸었으면 좋겠다'고 말한다. 초인을 만나든 죽음을 떠올리든 중요한 것은 꿈 속의 내용이 아니다. 깨어나면 어렴풋한 기억만이 남지만 기분은 선명한 것처럼, 앨범을 듣고서 심오한 깨달음이 아니더라도 그저 김뜻돌이 전하고자 하는 따듯한 느낌만이 남아도 좋겠다는 바람이다.
