This album <Big Dipper> contains songs that Roy Kim put down the guitar and composed for the first time with piano melodies. The arrangement of Roy Kim's nine tracks by Jung Ji-chan, who has been with him since his debut album, worked together once again.
The orchestra that covers the entire album was recorded in the US by the 'New York Session Orchestra' with Park In-young's string arrangement and Marc Urselli's string recording, the acoustic guitar played by Roy Kim himself, and the famous American drummer who has been with us since the 2nd album. and bassists Dan Needham and Gary Lunn, the best guitarist Hong Joon-ho, and mixing engineer Go Hyun-jung, a highly complete album was born.

지난 정규 2집 < Home > 이후 1년 2개월만에 로이킴이 또다시 세번째 정규 앨범으로 돌아온다.
데뷔한지 3년, 벌써 세 번째 정규앨범으로 뚝심 있는 음악적 행보를 이어가며 발표하는 앨범마다 그만의 음악적 지도를 그려온 로이킴은, 이번 3집 앨범에서 포크 감성을 기반으로 한 웅장하고 감성적인 ‘발라드’ 장르를 택했다.

이번 앨범 <북두칠성>은 로이킴은 기타를 내려놓고, 처음으로 피아노 선율로 작곡한 곡들이 수록 되었다. 로이킴의 아홉트랙의 자작곡에 데뷔 앨범부터 함께 해온 정지찬의 편곡이 다시 한번 호흡을 맞췄다.
앨범 전체를 아우르는 오케스트라는 박인영의 스트링 편곡에 Marc Urselli가 스트링 녹음을 맡아 ‘New York Session Orchestra’ 의 연주로 미국에서 녹음했으며, 로이킴이 직접 연주한 어쿠스틱 기타, 그리고 2집때부터 함께 해온 미국 유명 드러머와 베이시스트인 Dan Needham, Gary Lunn, 최고의 기타리스트 홍준호와 믹싱엔지니어 고현정의 손을 거쳐 완성도 높은 앨범이 탄생 되었다.
