시간은 나도, 너도, 우리가 모르는 사이에 자라났겠지. 너는 몇 개의 여름을 지나서야, 나는 구구절절한 어른이 되어서야 같은 여름을 매만지게 될 거야. 하지만 머지않아 당신은 당신의 내일을, 나는 나의 내일을 준비하게 되겠지.

매미도 숨죽이는 열대야가 오면 우린 우리의 여름 주위에서 울고, 원망하고, 마시고, 태우고, 토하고, 갈라지고, 베어내며 영원이 여름 옆에 피어있음을 알게 될 거야. 어쩌면 그 영원은 우리의 것이 아니고, 너만의 행복일 수도 있겠지... 우리의 잠이 좀 설었던 탓에 그런 걸까? 난 그게 우리의 것이길 바라왔었는데.
