Girlkind XJR 1st Mini Album [Life is Diamond]

This time, Girlkind XJR's first mini-album [Life is Diamond] is a unit of Girlkind Seheun & Jigang, trying to capture the young and stylish stories of these girls. Their youth, energy and passion, like shining jewels, show their identity more intensely.

The 1st mini album [Life is Diamond] consists of a total of 5 songs, including self-composed songs from Seheun & Jigang's solo activities. In this mini-album, we tried to show a variety of music worldviews from Trap to Tropical House. In particular, various musicians who worked with world-class artists participated in Girlkind XJR's first mini-album.


Album Review

01. MONEY TALK

The title song [MONEY TALK] is a hip-hop sound with the intensity of the 808 bass. Everyone says that money is everything, but we are talking about the specialness that we will succeed differently with our talent and energy.

Young Danny, who was in charge of singer Rihanna's producer, was in charge of producing, and Krysta Youngs, a songwriter for BTS' 'Map of the Soul: Persona' album, participated in the lyrics and composition. In addition, Benny Steele, who worked as Justin Bieber's engineer, participated in the mixing and mastering of the sound source to add musical perfection, and Seheun and Jikang also participated in the lyrics through their solo career experiences, expressing their honest feelings.


02. All you want

The second track contains the double title song [All you want].
It is a song that combines Jikang's rap with a chill sensibility compared to Seheun's comfortable voice and stimulating lyrics felt in the chorus of the addictive melody line, expressing stories about love in their own colors. In particular, the music video for [All you want] was filmed with the concept of the story of Gypsy Seheun & Jigang, who live in a desert where no one lives, and the sound also contains the beauty and color of the great nature of Joshua Tree, California.


03. Vibe on (Malachi Mott Remix)

Track 3 contains Seheun's solo song [Vibe on (Malachi Mott remix)], which was newly arranged in Future Bass style by producer Malachi Mott, who was in charge of remixing singer 'Sia' known as the chandelier.
The vocal chop-enhanced hook part was reorganized and the dance beat was reinforced to increase the charm of Seheun's low-pitched voice.


04. SPLIT (Feat. Tommy $trate)

The song was produced in collaboration with Tommy $trate, a talented rapper active in the underground hip-hop scene, in order to establish the hip-hop worldview of Jikang, the main rapper of Girlkind. It is a song composed to appeal to
Also, Larry Anthony, who mastered American hip-hop group Migos' hit song 'Bad and Boujee', directly participated in the mastering work for musical perfection.


05. I.Land
[I. Land] is the first song written and composed by JK (Jigang) himself, and it is a song that makes the body move with reggaeton bass and kick drum. I. Land has a dreamy charm that makes you listen to the music over and over again with addictive melodies and rap vocals. Matty Harris, who worked with hip-hop artist A$AP Rocky, participated as a mixing and mastering engineer to further enhance the sound quality.

Girlkind XJR is a unit that strengthens Girlkind's debut philosophy of taking a different path from existing girl groups. The mini-album [Life is Diamond] is the first mini-album that contains their will to raise their musical maturity and surprise the world through the quality of their performance.

이번 걸카인드XJR의 첫번째 미니앨범 [Life is Diamond]는 걸카인드 세흔&지강 유닛으로 Young하고 Stylish한 그녀들의 이야기들을 담아내려고 노력했다. 빛나는 보석과 같은 젊음 그리고 에너지와 열정은 그녀들의 아이덴티티를 더욱 강렬하게 나타낸다.

1st mini album [Life is Diamond]는 세흔&지강의 솔로 활동 자작곡들을 포함하여 총 5곡으로 구성되었다. 이번 미니앨범에는 Trap부터 Tropical House까지 다양한 음악세계관을 보여주려고 노력하였다. 특히 세계적인 아티스트와 작업했던 다양한 뮤지션들이 걸카인드XJR의 첫번째 미니 앨범에 참여하였다.

01. MONEY TALK

타이틀곡 [MONEY TALK]은 808베이스의 강렬함이 느껴지는 힙합 사운드로, 모든 사람들이 돈이면 다 된다고 말하지만 우린 우리가 가진 재능과 에너지로 다르게 성공하겠다는 특별함을 이야기하고 있다.

가수 리한나의 프로듀서를 담당했던 Young Danny가 프로듀싱을 담당했으며, 방탄소년단 ‘Map of the Soul: Persona’ 앨범의 송라이터 Krysta Youngs가 작사, 작곡에 참여했다. 또한, 저스틴 비버의 엔지니어로 활동한 Benny Steele가 음원의 믹싱과 마스터링에 참여해 음악적 완성도를 더했으며, 세흔과 지강 역시 솔로 활동 경험을 통해 직접 작사에 참여하여 그녀들의 솔직한 느낌들을 담아내었다.


02. All you want

2번 트랙에는 더블 타이틀곡 [All you want]가 수록되어있다.
중독적인 멜로디 라인의 Chorus에서 느껴지는 세흔의 편안한 보이스와 자극적인 가사에 비해 Chill한 감성을 지닌 지강의 랩이 어우러진 곡으로 사랑에 대한 이야기들을 그녀들만의 색깔로 표현하였다. 특히 [All you want] 뮤직비디오는 아무도 없는 사막에 살고 있는 Gypsy 세흔&지강의 이야기라는 콘셉으로 촬영되어, 사운드 또한 캘리포니아 Joshua Tree 대자연의 아름다움과 색감을 담고 있다.


03. Vibe on (Malachi Mott Remix)

3번 트랙에는 샹들리에로 알려진 가수 ‘Sia’의 리믹스를 담당했던 프로듀서 Malachi Mott에 의해 Future Bass 스타일로 새롭게 편곡된 세흔의 솔로곡 [Vibe on (Malachi Mott remix)]가 수록되었다.
Vocal Chop이 강화된 Hook부분이 재구성되고 댄스비트가 보강되어 세흔의 저음보이스의 매력을 증가시켰다.


04. SPLIT (Feat. Tommy $trate)

걸카인드의 메인래퍼 지강의 힙합적인 세계관 구축을 위하여 언더그라운드 힙합 씬에서 활동하는 실력있는 래퍼 Tommy $trate와 함께 협업하여 프로듀싱한 곡으로, 강렬한 Hook과 상반되는 Bridge에서의 멜로디라인이 지강의 다양한 매력을 어필할 수 있도록 구성한 곡이다.
또한 음악적인 완성도를 위해 미국 힙합그룹 Migos의 히트곡 ‘Bad and Boujee'를 마스터링한 Larry Anthony가 직접 마스터링 작업에 참여하였다.


05. I.Land
[I. Land]는 JK(지강)이 직접 작사, 작곡한 첫 번째 곡으로 레게톤 베이스와 킥 드럼이 몸을 움직이게 만드는 노래이다. I. Land는 중독성 있는 멜로디와 랩 보컬이 음악을 반복적으로 자꾸 듣게 만드는 몽환적인 매력을 가지고 있다. 힙합 아티스트 A$AP Rocky와 함께 작업했던 Matty Harris가 믹싱과 마스터링 엔지니어로 참여하여 사운드의 퀄리티를 한층 높여주었다.

걸카인드XJR은 기존의 걸그룹과는 다른 행보를 걷겠다는 걸카인드의 데뷔 철학을 강화시킨 유닛이다. 미니앨범 [Life is Diamond]는 음악적인 성숙도를 높이고 퍼포먼스의 퀄리티를 통해 세상을 놀라게 하겠다는 그녀들의 의지가 담긴 첫 번째 미니앨범이다.
