R&B music is in a unique position in Korea. Although the genre music market that has yet to be formed is not clearly visible, the number of musicians representing this genre is increasing year after year. The artist's activities are fragmented, but good jewelry can be found in unexpected places. The musician I will be introducing today, dori, is also a musician I met in an unexpected place. To call him just a rookie, his first single has already produced successful results. The song “2 O'CLOCK”, which was first released, received a lot of love not only in Korea but also abroad, and the numbers have already proved it. Of course, not only indicators are great. His vocals, which were released over the light production without being excessive, were attractive enough without being flashy. He seemed to know what the so-called sophisticated R&B virtues are.

This album [Cinema Pt.1] is a work that shows dori's musical spectrum as well as various possibilities. If the three songs released so far, “2 O'CLOCK,” “Girlfriend,” and “YOU AND I” all had a somewhat similar mood, the b-side songs in this work reveal more strengths as a singer-songwriter and vocalist, naturally expressing confidence. It feels like opening up the world of music. If the pre-released “smallthing” has a texture closer to pop, the title song “My Light” is a breezy R&B song with a fast tempo, added rhythm, and an impressive bass sound and beat. Here, dori's sing-lap is added, so you can see another of his charms. On the contrary, “That Star” is a lyrical and melodious song familiar to Korean R&B fans. You can feel dori's singing and expressive power a little more, but above all, you can also see the ability to dramatically lead the song while the string performance is added.

All the songs on the album were co-produced with Jung Bas, and “That Star” was co-produced with Widstring, one of the most active string session teams in Korea. In addition, “My Light” is included with the sped up version, which is currently in vogue mainly for short form. The album is also released as a CD, and through the CD, you can also listen to the previously released “2 O'CLOCK” and “Girlfriend”. 한국에서 알앤비 음악은 독특한 위치에 있다. 아직 형성된 장르 음악 시장이 명확하게 눈에 드러나는 것은 아니지만, 이 장르를 표방하는 음악가는 해를 거듭할수록 늘어나고 있다. 아티스트의 활동은 파편화되어 있지만, 좋은 보석은 그래서 예상치 못한 곳에서 만나게 되기도 한다. 오늘 소개할 음악가, dori 역시 예상치 못한 곳에서 만나게 된 음악가다. 그를 그저 신예라고 하기엔 이미 첫 싱글이 성공적인 결과를 낳았다. 처음 발표한 곡 “2 O' CLOCK”은 국내뿐만 아니라 해외에서도 많은 사랑을 받았고, 이미 숫자가 그것을 증명했다. 물론 지표만 훌륭한 것은 아니다. 과하지 않고 담백한 프로덕션 위로 풀어놓은 그의 보컬은 화려하지 않아도 충분히 매력적이었다. 소위 말하는 세련된 알앤비가 갖춰야 하는 덕목이 무엇인지 그는 알고 있는 듯했다.

이번 앨범 [Cinema Pt.1]은 그런 dori의 음악적 스펙트럼은 물론 다양한 가능성까지 보여주는 작품이다. 지금까지 발표한 세 곡, “2 O' CLOCK”과 “Girlfriend”, “YOU AND I” 모두 어느 정도 비슷한 무드였다면 이 작품에 담긴 수록곡은 싱어송라이터로서, 그리고 보컬로서 좀 더 장점을 드러내며 자연스럽게 자신의 음악 세계를 여는 느낌이다. 선공개된 “smallthing”이 좀 더 팝에 가까운 질감을 지니고 있다면, 타이틀곡인 “My Light”은 빠른 템포에 리듬감이 더해지며 베이스 사운드와 비트가 인상적인, 경쾌한 알앤비 곡이다. 여기에 dori의 싱랩이 더해져 그의 또 다른 매력을 만나볼 수 있다. “저 별”은 반대로 한국의 알앤비 팬들에게 익숙한, 서정적이면서 멜로디가 강조된 곡이다. dori의 가창력이나 표현력을 좀 더 느낄 수 있지만, 무엇보다 스트링 연주가 더해지는 가운데 곡을 극적으로 끌고 가는 역량도 확인할 수 있다.

앨범의 모든 곡은 정바스와 함께 작업했으며, “저 별”은 한국에서 가장 활발하게 활동 중인 스트링 세션 팀 중 하나인 위드스트링과 함께 작업했다. 또한 “My Light”은 최근 숏폼을 중심으로 유행 중인 스페드 업(Sped Up) 버전이 함께 수록된다. 앨범은 CD로도 발매되는데, CD를 통해서는 기존에 발매된 “2 O' CLOCK”과 “Girlfriend”도 함께 들을 수 있다. 앨범은 각종 국내외 스트리밍 플랫폼에서 들을 수 있으며, CD 발매는 3월 30일 시작된다.
